Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue" in a social media statement. The company offered no further explanation of the cause or preventative measures.
To compensate PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony will automatically add five extra days to their subscriptions.
Gamers reported widespread disruptions throughout the outage, with over one-third unable to log in and others experiencing server crashes.
The outage highlights concerns among players who have criticized Sony's requirement of a PSN account even for single-player PC games.
While less severe than the major 2011 data breach that resulted in over 20 days of connectivity issues, this latest PSN downtime has left PS5 users frustrated by Sony's limited communication regarding the incident.
