Microsoft's recent Xbox showcases have included a notable shift: the prominent display of PlayStation 5 logos alongside Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass. This reflects Microsoft's broader multiplatform strategy, a change evident in recent months. For instance, the Xbox Developer Direct showcased Ninja Gaiden 4, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, all featuring the PS5 logo alongside other platforms.
This contrasts sharply with Microsoft's June 2024 showcase, where PS5 announcements were handled separately. Games like Doom: The Dark Ages received PS5 announcements post-event, and titles such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred, and Assassin's Creed Shadows omitted PS5 from their initial showcase reveals.

In contrast, Sony and Nintendo's showcases maintain a focus on their respective platforms. Recent State of Play presentations, for example, highlighted Monster Hunter Wilds, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword without mentioning Xbox or other platforms, despite their multiplatform releases. Sony's approach underscores its long-standing strategy of prioritizing its own consoles.

Xbox head Phil Spencer, in an interview with XboxEra, clarified Microsoft's approach. He emphasized transparency regarding platform availability, stating that logistical challenges prevented complete asset inclusion in the June 2024 showcase. Spencer highlighted a commitment to showcasing games across all platforms, acknowledging differences between "open" and "closed" platforms while prioritizing game accessibility.
He stated: "I just want to be transparent with people — for shipping on Nintendo Switch, we’re gonna put that. For shipping on PlayStation, on Steam... People should know the storefronts where they can get our games, but I want people to be able to experience our Xbox community in our games and everything we have to offer, on every screen we can."
This suggests future Xbox showcases will likely feature PS5 and potentially Nintendo Switch 2 logos alongside Xbox titles. Therefore, Microsoft's June 2025 showcase might include games like Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, and the latest Call of Duty title with prominent PS5 branding. However, it's unlikely Sony and Nintendo will reciprocate this approach.
