A report from Insider Gaming reveals a complete reboot for the Alaskan extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick within the Far Cry universe. Originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, internal reviews led Ubisoft to significantly alter development. Despite positive employee and tester feedback, resource allocation shifted heavily towards Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately resulting in the cancellation of the multiplayer component due to the reassignment of the technical team.
Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support, now oversees the project. Most of the original development team has transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

Insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024) reports that Far Cry 7 will immerse players in a desperate struggle against time. The core narrative revolves around the protagonist's family, kidnapped by a mysterious cult performing horrific hallucinogen experiments on animals and children. Players must rescue their loved ones within a critical 72 in-game hours (24 real-time hours), making time management a crucial gameplay mechanic.
A prominent feature is an in-game wristwatch timer, constantly emphasizing the time constraint and adding pressure to strategic decision-making. Far Cry 7 aims to deliver a high-stakes experience where every second and choice matters.
