Overwatch 2 is gearing up to significantly boost Reinhardt and Winston, two iconic tank heroes. While specifics are still under wraps, lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently hinted at substantial buffs in an interview with content creator Spilo. These changes aim to address the heroes' struggles in Overwatch 2's current one-tank meta.
Dawson discussed his design philosophy, acknowledging past missteps in creating overly versatile heroes. He confirmed upcoming improvements for both Reinhardt and Winston:
Planned Buffs:
- Reinhardt: A potential increase to his Charge's pinning damage to 300, potentially one-shotting most non-tank heroes.
- Winston: Reduced charge time for his Tesla Cannon alt-fire and improvements to his Primal Rage ultimate (details pending).
These adjustments are designed to revitalize Reinhardt and Winston, who have either dominated or underperformed in various metas across both Overwatch titles. The changes aim to make them more competitive within Overwatch 2's unique one-tank gameplay.
While no firm release date was given, considering the recent start of Season 11, players can anticipate these buffs within the next few weeks, possibly as part of a mid-season update (potentially mid-July or sooner).
The interview also touched upon other heroes. Mauga, Overwatch 2's newest tank, is slated for adjustments to his Cardiac Overdrive ability, and the upcoming Space Ranger support hero was teased as a highly mobile character with a unique mechanic shared by only one other hero. More details on these changes are expected soon.
