Deltarune Chapter 4 is nearing completion, but the release date remains elusive. Toby Fox, creator of Undertale and Deltarune, recently shared a development update in his newsletter.
Fox confirmed that Chapters 3 and 4 will launch simultaneously on PC, Switch, and PS4. While Chapter 4 is largely playable, requiring only minor polish, the release is still some time away. The delay is attributed to the complexities of multi-platform and multi-language releases, especially since this is the first major paid release since Undertale.
The final stages of development include:
- Testing new features
- Finalizing PC and console versions
- Japanese localization
- Thorough bug testing
Chapter 4's current status includes finished maps and playable battles, but some cutscenes, battles, and backgrounds need refinement. Despite this, early feedback from testers is positive. Meanwhile, work on Chapter 5 has already begun.
Fox teased some upcoming content, including dialogue between Ralsei and Rouxls, a character description for Elnina, and a new item, the GingerGuard. He also confirmed that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2.
Although a specific release date remains unannounced, Fox anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 are released. The wait continues, but the anticipation is high given the promising progress and the extended content promised.
