Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
The release of Baldur's Gate 3's highly anticipated Patch 7 has ignited a modding frenzy! The community response has been phenomenal, with an overwhelming number of mods being downloaded and installed.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of Patch 7's September 5th launch. "Modding is pretty big," he stated. This figure was further amplified by Scott Reismanis, founder of ModDB and mod.io, who reported that installs have surpassed three million and are still climbing rapidly.
This surge in modding activity is fueled by Patch 7's significant additions, including new evil endings, enhanced split-screen functionality, and Larian's own integrated Mod Manager. This in-game tool simplifies the process of browsing, installing, and managing community-created mods.
The existing modding tools, available as a separate Steam app, empower modders to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. Modders can also incorporate custom scripts, perform basic debugging, and publish their creations directly from the toolkit.
Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon
PC Gamer highlighted a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) which unlocks a full level editor and reactivates previously restricted features within Larian's editor. While Larian initially limited access to its development tools, Vincke confirmed their commitment to cross-platform modding, acknowledging the complexity of implementing this feature across PC and consoles. The PC version will receive support first, with console support following later to allow for thorough testing and troubleshooting.
Beyond modding, Patch 7 delivers a refined gaming experience with UI improvements, new animations, expanded dialogue options, and extensive bug fixes and performance enhancements. With further updates planned, Larian's ongoing support for the community and its modding efforts is clear.
