Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered faces censorship in Japan, sparking outrage from creators Suda51 and Shinji Mikami. The duo criticized Japan's CERO rating board in a GameSpark interview, highlighting the challenges of creating two versions of the game – one censored for Japan, the other uncensored.

Suda51, known for Killer7 and No More Heroes, described the dual development process as significantly increasing workload and extending development time. Mikami, renowned for Resident Evil and other mature titles, argued that CERO's approach is out of sync with modern gamers' preferences, questioning the censorship of games enjoyed by players who actively seek "edgy" content.

CERO's rating system (CERO D for 17+, CERO Z for 18+) is questioned by Suda51, who wonders about the impact on players and the rationale behind the restrictions. He believes the restrictions don't consider the desires of the gaming audience.

This isn't CERO's first controversy. EA Japan's Shaun Noguchi previously highlighted inconsistencies, citing the approval of Stellar Blade (CERO D) while rejecting Dead Space. The debate continues regarding the fairness and relevance of CERO's censorship practices in the modern gaming landscape.
