Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant update scheduled for late March 2025, which will introduce crossplay functionality across all platforms. This eagerly awaited update will also feature the addition of world transfer capabilities for Pals. While Pocketpair shared this news on X/Twitter, they kept further details under wraps, only teasing the update with a promotional image of Palworld characters battling a formidable Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" to be included in the March update, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans. This news is particularly thrilling for the game's 32 million players who have engaged with Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. Looking ahead, Pocketpair has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025 that, in addition to crossplay, includes an "ending scenario" and more new content for this popular creature-catching survival game.
Since its launch on Steam for $30 and its immediate availability on Game Pass for Xbox and PC in January 2024, Palworld has shattered sales records and achieved unprecedented concurrent player counts. The overwhelming success of the game led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to admit that the studio was initially overwhelmed by the massive profits. In response, Pocketpair swiftly moved to expand the Palworld universe by signing a deal with Sony to create Palworld Entertainment, a new entity focused on broadening the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, the game's success has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, seeking "an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages" due to alleged infringement of "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains steadfast in its legal defense, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
