Nintendo Switch 2 Image in the Nintendo Today! App Confirms Mystery Joy-Con Button Is Indeed the C Button

Author : Scarlett Update:Apr 17,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, dispelling earlier rumors. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, available on both the App Store and Google Play. A close look at the app's promotional image reveals the letter 'C' clearly marked on the button.

The C button was first introduced alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the Joy-Con did not feature any letter on the button, leading to speculation. Now, it's clear that the button is labeled as speculated, confirming the "C" button rumors.

There's been a lot of speculation about the function of this new button. Some believe it could be used for "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or for some form of screen sharing. Others suggest it might switch the Joy-Con's functionality, perhaps to a mouse mode. There's also talk about it potentially relating to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about this button and other features. Until then, here's what we know for sure about the Nintendo Switch 2:
  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June if the hands-on event schedule is any indication.
  • The new console is larger than the original Switch, with bigger Joy-Con that appear to be usable as a mouse.
  • There are two USB-C ports on the Nintendo Switch 2, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some Nintendo Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the company's latest news initiative at the end of the showcase. This comprehensive mobile application offers numerous benefits for avid Nintendo fans. Serving as a daily calendar and news hub, the Nintendo Today! app ensures players stay updated with the latest happenings. Miyamoto highlighted that following the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct next week, users can log into the app to access all the latest updates, with new content being delivered daily.
