The highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds has just rolled out its day-one patch, and it's a hefty one, weighing in at a substantial 18GB. While this large file size might give some players pause, it's crucial to download it to enhance the game's performance across all platforms. Although the patch initially launched on the PlayStation 5, Capcom is expected to extend it to other platforms soon. Unfortunately, the patch notes detailing the specific changes have not yet been released by the developer.
Many in the community speculate that this update includes high-resolution textures, which were notably absent in the review copies sent out to critics. This addition could justify the update's significant size, as high-quality textures demand a lot of storage space. Furthermore, since the patch debuted on the PS5, it might also incorporate enhancements for the PS5 Pro, which Capcom has confirmed will be supported at launch. These enhancements are expected to boost gameplay performance for console players.
Additionally, the day-one patch is likely to contain crucial bug fixes. Despite Capcom's efforts to polish the game, numerous bugs remain that need addressing, and including these fixes in the initial patch is a common practice.
Although labeled as a day-one patch, pre-order customers can download it before the official release date. Players with slower internet connections should consider installing the patch before February 28 to ensure a seamless first playthrough. It's worth noting that this patch, despite its size, is considered a minor update (version 1.000.020) and is unlikely to introduce new content.
For those eagerly awaiting new content, Monster Hunter Wilds will offer three paid DLC packs post-launch. However, players on a budget can look forward to two free content updates. The first free DLC, arriving in spring, will introduce Mizutsune along with some event quests. A second update in the summer will bring new monsters and missions to the game.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on PC and consoles on February 28.
