MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed players won't be able to harm dogs in the upcoming game. This decision marks a significant departure from the studio's previous work, which often featured animal combat.
A Dog-Loving Indiana Jones
Creative Director Jens Andersson explained to IGN that the decision stems from Indiana Jones's character and the game's family-friendly nature. While Indy will engage in combat with human enemies, any canine encounters will be non-lethal. Instead of harming dogs, players will find ways to scare them off.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," Andersson stated. "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways...We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away."
Adventure Awaits
Set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sees Indy chasing stolen artifacts. His journey takes him across diverse locations, from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and even submerged temples. His trusty whip will be used for both traversal and combat against human foes.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launches December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC. A PS5 release is planned for Spring 2025. For more gameplay details, be sure to check out our related article.
