Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC receives a balancing update (1.12.2) to ease difficulty. While critically acclaimed, the DLC's challenging nature sparked player frustration, leading to review bombing on Steam. This update directly addresses concerns about difficulty, particularly in the early and late stages of the expansion.
The update significantly boosts attack power and damage reduction from Shadow Realm Blessings (like Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes) during the first half of their enhancement levels. The latter half of the enhancements will now scale more gradually. The final enhancement level also receives a slight increase. This means players will find the beginning and end of the DLC more manageable. Bandai Namco even issued a reminder to players to utilize these Scadutree Fragments effectively, as many weren't leveraging their benefits.
Additionally, the update fixes a bug on PC where ray tracing automatically activates when loading older save files, a known cause of framerate issues. Players experiencing instability should disable ray tracing in the graphics settings. Further balance adjustments and bug fixes are promised in future updates.
