Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by the popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has officially announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which also boasted veterans from renowned franchises like Call of Duty and Halo such as Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, shared the news on a post on X. "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers," the statement read. They also reached out to the gaming community, inquiring if any studios are currently hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
The studio's flagship project, Deadrop, was set to be a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) game, leveraging the team's extensive expertise. Originally targeting a 2024 release, the game unfortunately missed its launch window. Deadrop was envisioned in a unique fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters with Daft Punk-like helmets wielding an array of weapons including guns and swords. The gameplay was designed as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising a thrilling experience.

Midnight Society's journey faced a significant challenge in 2024 when they parted ways with Beahm. This decision came after the streamer admitted to exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, which he acknowledged as "sometimes leaning too much in the direction of being inappropriate." Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until the decision to close was made this year.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing closures or layoffs, reflecting the challenging times within the gaming industry. This trend has also affected well-known companies such as Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others, underscoring the volatile nature of the sector.
