Astro Bot: A Platforming Champion Crowned
Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing all other platformers to become the most awarded of all time, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year awards. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.
Initially conceived as an expansion of the popular Astro's Playroom tech demo, Astro Bot, released in September 2024, exceeded all expectations. Immediately lauded as the highest-rated new game of 2024, its success continued to grow, culminating in a Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2024. This win, however, was just the beginning.
As highlighted by NextGenPlayer on Twitter, and confirmed by gamefa.com's Game of the Year Award Tracker, Astro Bot has accumulated a staggering 104 Game of the Year awards. While this is a monumental achievement, it still falls short of the accolades received by titles like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 awards), The Last of Us Part 2 (326 awards), and Elden Ring (435 awards), the current record holder for most awarded game overall.
Despite this, Astro Bot's success is undeniable. With over 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024, the game's commercial performance is equally impressive, especially considering its relatively small development team (under 70 developers) and likely moderate budget. Astro Bot has undeniably transformed from a niche title into a major player in the PlayStation franchise.
