A viral video cleverly transforms Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into Super Mario Galaxy. Released in May 2023, Tears of the Kingdom, the highly anticipated sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild, continues the acclaimed action-adventure series. Often compared to other Nintendo blockbusters like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and various Super Mario titles, this latest Zelda installment has now inspired a unique fan creation.
Reddit user Ultrababouin's video, "Super Zelda Galaxy," masterfully blends footage from Tears of the Kingdom to evoke the feel of the beloved 2007 Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy. The edit meticulously recreates iconic scenes, triggering nostalgic feelings among many viewers. One notable example is the recreation of Super Mario Galaxy's opening, mirroring Mario's awakening and encounter with a Luma.

Ultrababouin shared their month-long project on the Hyrule Engineering subreddit, a community dedicated to showcasing in-game creations within Tears of the Kingdom. The video was a submission for June's design contest, showcasing Ultrababouin's considerable talent. Their past contributions include a Tears of the Kingdom rendition of the Master Cycle Zero, earning them "Engineer of the Month" accolades in December and February.
The Master Cycle Zero, a motorcycle-like item from Breath of the Wild, is absent in Tears of the Kingdom. However, the new game's innovative build system allows players to construct vehicles and contraptions. This has led to impressive creations, including a functional aircraft carrier capable of launching a bomber, built by Hyrule Engineering member ryt1314059.
The next mainline Zelda title, Echoes of Wisdom, launches September 26th. A significant departure from the series, Echoes of Wisdom will feature Princess Zelda as the protagonist, rather than the usual Link.
