Valorant's Anti-Cheat Measures: Ranked Rollbacks to Combat Cheaters
Valorant is escalating its fight against cheaters with the introduction of ranked rollbacks. This new anti-cheat measure will reverse a player's rank or progress if their match was compromised by hackers. The goal is to ensure fair play and penalize those who cheat.
The recent surge in hacking activity prompted Riot Games to announce these stricter penalties. Phillip Koskinas, Riot's head of anti-cheat, confirmed the initiative on Twitter, highlighting the increased effectiveness of their anti-cheat system, Vanguard. Data shows a significant number of bans issued in January alone, with a peak on January 13th.
Addressing concerns about players who win matches with cheaters on their team, Koskinas clarified that those players will retain their rank rating. Only the opposing team, unfairly disadvantaged by the hackers, will have their rank adjusted. While this approach might lead to some rank inflation, Riot believes it's a necessary step to combat cheating.
Valorant's Vanguard system, utilizing kernel-level security, has proven effective, inspiring similar anti-cheat implementations in other games like Call of Duty. Despite past successes in banning thousands of players, the persistent nature of cheating necessitates ongoing adaptation and stronger countermeasures. The effectiveness of the new ranked rollback system remains to be seen, but it represents a significant commitment from Riot Games to maintaining a fair and enjoyable gaming experience for all Valorant players.
