Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit video game, Helldivers 2. The exciting news was revealed at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title ever, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original game.
Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie.
Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences: this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
