Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, leaving Isaac's feelings about returning to the franchise somewhat ambiguous. While initially expressing reluctance (suggesting a return only if he "needed another house"), he later told Variety he was "open to anything," indicating a shift in his perspective.
Isaac's past criticisms of Disney, including their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), have also contributed to the ongoing discussion. Boyega himself has voiced past frustrations with Disney and the franchise, yet remains open to future roles.
This renewed speculation centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has previously expressed her hope for Boyega's return, and with Poe completing the Sequel Trilogy's main trio, his inclusion seems plausible.
While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clues, fans face a longer wait for definitive answers. Disney's repeated delays of various Star Wars projects, including the Rey film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, have pushed its earliest potential release date to December 17, 2027.
