Sony has provided an update on the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes available for the PS5, along with information on the future of theme releases. In a recent tweet, Sony announced that these beloved classic themes will be removed from the PS5 starting tomorrow, January 31, 2025. However, there's a silver lining for fans who've relished the nostalgia of these themes: Sony has promised that they will return in the future.
"Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow," Sony stated. "Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead."

Unfortunately, there's also some disappointing news for those hoping for more variety. In a follow-up tweet, Sony clarified that there are no plans to create additional themes for the PS5 in the future. The statement read, "While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all."
This announcement has sparked disappointment among fans, especially since themes have been a staple feature of previous PlayStation consoles. Sony has not yet implemented a theme system on the PS5, and it seems this will not change during the current console generation.
The nostalgia themes, launched to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation on December 3, 2024, allow PS5 users to customize their home screen and menus with the distinctive looks and sounds of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The PSOne theme features the iconic console on the home screen background, the PS2 theme incorporates its unique menu shapes, the PS3 theme includes its wave background, and the PS4 theme displays its wave patterns. Each theme also includes the respective console's signature sound effects, adding to the nostalgic experience.
