The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into the details about Pokémon TCG Pocket's stance on competitive play and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the Pokémon competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, mentioned that while they continuously evaluate different titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.
Brown humorously referenced the "Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament" from an April Fool’s parody trailer, but clarified, "At this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
Although The Pokémon Company has not officially stated the reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from competitive play, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets so far. This early stage might contribute to its absence from the competitive scene.
Despite featuring competitive elements within the app since its launch, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, designed as a more accessible version of the traditional Pokémon card game, prioritizes a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive one.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive with events featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
