In the world of *Pokemon GO,* the announcement of a new ticket or pass often sparks curiosity about its cost. Fans were pleasantly surprised to discover that the new *Pokemon GO* Tour Pass is free, but what exactly is it?
What Is a Tour Pass in *Pokemon GO*?
The Tour Pass is a fresh addition to *Pokemon GO,* debuting with the Global event for *Pokemon GO* Tour: Unova. This feature allows players to complete various tasks to earn Tour Points, which can be used to unlock rewards, increase rank, and enhance event bonuses during the GO Tour Unova event.
The Tour Pass itself is free, and players will automatically receive one when the *Pokemon GO* Tour: Unova event kicks off on February 24 at 10 AM local time. However, for those looking for more, there's the Tour Pass Deluxe, a paid version costing $14.99 USD or the local equivalent. This deluxe version offers an instant encounter with Victini, along with "upgraded rewards and faster progression" through the Tour Pass levels.
How Do You Earn Tour Points & What Do They Do?
Tour Points are earned through familiar in-game activities such as catching Pokemon, participating in raids, and hatching eggs. Additionally, players can complete special Pass Tasks, which refresh daily during the GO Tour, to earn more points.
These Tour Points enable players to collect rewards, unlock items, and advance through the Tour Pass tiers. As players rank up, they unlock various rewards including Pokemon encounters, candy, Poke Balls, and more. Ranking up also boosts the Catch XP bonus during *Pokemon GO* Tour: Unova:
- 1.5× Catch XP upon reaching Tier 2
- 2× Catch XP upon reaching Tier 3
- 3× Catch XP upon reaching Tier 4
While Niantic hasn't revealed all the rewards yet, promising more details to come, we know the highest reward tier in the free Tour Pass offers a Zorua encounter with a special background. The paid Tour Pass Deluxe, on the other hand, has a unique final reward: a new item called the Lucky Trinket.
What Is a Lucky Trinket?
Exclusive to the Tour Pass Deluxe, the Lucky Trinket is the ultimate reward for dedicated players during the GO Tour Global event. This one-time-use item allows you to transform one of your friends into a Lucky Friend, enabling you to trade for a Lucky Pokemon without needing to be Best Friends. However, you must be at least Great Friends to use it.
Lucky Trinkets obtained during GO Tour: Unova will expire on March 9, 2025, so make sure to use them within the limited time frame.
*Pokemon GO* is available to play now, offering players an exciting new way to engage with the game through the Tour Pass system.
