Featuring "Serious" Majima
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is set to redefine the limits of reality while delivering a compelling "manly drama" storyline, according to RGG Studio's interview with Automaton Media.
While the Like a Dragon series is renowned for its humor, with Majima often cited as one of the most hilarious characters, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed that this iteration of Majima will take on a more "serious" demeanor, particularly at the story's outset.
Ryosuke Horii, the producer of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, elaborated on Yokoyama's comments, emphasizing the "manly drama" at the game's core. He highlighted Majima's passionate journey toward his goals and the meaningful connections he forms along the way. "The goofing off isn’t the main focus – there’s a manly drama at the heart of things. Of course, there are some wild detours, but overall, it's a straightforward story about a passionate man," Horii explained.
Horii also noted that Majima possesses a unique quality that even the series' long-time protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, cannot match. As translated by Automaton, "If we didn’t leverage that, there would be no reason to make Majima the main character. That’s why we pushed the boundaries of reality a bit more than we would with Kiryu, aiming to deliver action that's rich and varied. ... I wanted to strike a perfect balance between the pirate elements, Majima's essence, and the ‘Ryu ga Gotoku’ spirit, which was quite challenging."
The game aims to strike the ideal balance between realism and extravagance, ensuring it's neither dull nor overly wild, all while maintaining a serious and engaging drama.
