Size
From the trailer, it's evident that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be larger than its predecessor in every dimension. The screen, Joy-Cons, and even the analog sticks have been slightly upsized. While exact specifications remain undisclosed, insiders report that the Switch 2 will measure 116 mm in height, 270 mm in width, and 14 mm in thickness. This makes it 3.1 cm wider and 1.4 cm taller than the standard Nintendo Switch. Rumors also suggest an 8-inch screen diagonal, compared to the 7-inch screen of the OLED version of the first Switch.

Design
The trailer showcases a new design for the Joy-Cons, which now feature magnetic attachments. These are secured in portable mode by two recessed contacts within the console's frame, ensuring a robust connection. The SL and SR buttons have been enlarged and are now metallic, with NextHandheld confirming that the magnets will be strong enough to prevent accidental detachment. This design, however, results in side bezels around the screen.
The controllers now slide to the side after a button press, and the holder that transforms them into a full joystick has been modified. Its upper grips are now flat, and the Joy-Cons insert from the sides instead of the top. The buttons on the Joy-Cons have been slightly enlarged, and the sticks are rumored to use Hall effect sensors to combat drift issues. Notably, the IR camera, used in games like Ring Fit Adventure, has been omitted, raising questions about backward compatibility.

Additionally, a microphone and a USB Type-C port are visible on the console's top bezel. While their specific uses are not detailed, they might enable direct compatibility with wired joysticks and voice chat in games.

What's Inside?
While we await the full specifications to be unveiled during the Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, speculation suggests that the Switch 2 will have performance comparable to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There's also a possibility of supporting Quad HD resolution in docked mode. Most insiders agree on the following tentative specs:
- Processor: Custom Nvidia Tegra T239
- RAM: 12 GB
- Storage: 256 GB
- Memory Card Support: microSDHC, microSDXC, microSD Express
- Screen: LCD, 8 inches
Rumors indicate that the console won't feature an OLED screen at launch, but its specs are promising. We can expect many AAA projects from previous years to be ported to the Switch 2, including a potential release of Genshin Impact, which was announced back in 2020.
