Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Abruptly Ceased by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its launch. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details about the game's closure.

In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, but players can continue playing until October 21st, 2024, when the servers will be permanently shut down.

The official reasons for the shutdown remain undisclosed. However, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile game strategy.

What Happens to In-Game Purchases?

Refunds for in-game purchases are currently unconfirmed. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have promised further information soon, so keep an eye on their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, is a unique entry in the series. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, it's an action-adventure beat 'em up RPG blending combat with a cinematic storyline, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The narrative centers on Raiden and the player's team thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
