Since the triumphant launch of *Marvel Rivals* in December, players have been customizing their experience with mods, creating unique skins that range from turning Iron Man into Vegeta from *Dragon Ball* to transforming Mantis into a goth aesthetic. There's even a popular mod that morphs Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from *Chainsaw Man*. However, these mods come with a risk: account bans.
With the arrival of Season 1 and the Fantastic Four, *Marvel Rivals* introduced a secret mod restriction through asset hash checking. Developer NetEase has made it clear in their terms and conditions that mods, along with cheats, bots, hacks, or any unauthorized third-party software, are prohibited. In a statement to IGN, NetEase reiterated their stance, warning players that modifying game files could lead to bans: "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."

Despite these warnings, some players remain undeterred. A workaround has been discovered and shared widely online, requiring more steps but still accessible to most PC users. Modder Prafit, who shared their workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users: "Use at your own risk," emphasizing that the workaround bypasses the new system designed to prevent modding. "No-one knows if NetEase will ban you, but they have never issued permabans as far as we know," Prafit added.
The modding community has not slowed down, with new mods emerging that capitalize on the addition of Fantastic Four characters. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the *One Piece* manga, which has already seen over 5,000 downloads in just two days since its release, according to Nexus Mods.

The ongoing question for *Marvel Rivals* modders and users is whether NetEase will follow through with bans. While no confirmed cases of bans for modding have surfaced, the existence of workarounds might prompt further action from the developers.
NetEase's potential reasons for banning mods include lost revenue from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, and the impact mods could have on gameplay balance and game performance. Modder Prafit noted that their workaround is best suited for those with high-performance PCs.
