Luigi Games on Nintendo Switch: 2025 Preview

As any younger sibling who grew up on Mario platformers knows, Luigi is gaming's ultimate Player 2. Nintendo's green-capped member of the Mario Bros. has often lived in the shadow of his older twin, Mario. However, Luigi has stepped into the spotlight with his ghostbusting Luigi's Mansion series, showcasing his unique charm and bravery.

As we approach the launch of the Switch 2, we're celebrating another console generation of Luigi and all the Player 2s out there by presenting a comprehensive list of every Luigi game available on the Nintendo Switch.

There are 17 games on the Nintendo Switch where you can play as Luigi. He takes the lead in just two titles (Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Luigi’s Mansion 3) and shares the spotlight in one (Mario & Luigi: Brothership).

Luigi’s Mansion 3 (2019)

Luigi's first starring role on the Switch came with Luigi’s Mansion 3, the third installment in his solo series. In this game, Luigi and his green gooey clone, Gooigi, team up with Professor E. Gadd to battle ghosts and rescue friends from King Boo’s haunted hotel.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (2024)

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a high-definition remake of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. In this second installment, Luigi explores the haunted mansions of Evershade Valley to capture King Boo and save his brother once more.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership (2024)

While not exclusively a 'Luigi game,' Mario & Luigi: Brothership places both brothers on equal footing. This marks the first entry in the Mario & Luigi series since Paper Jam in 2014, where players control both brothers to navigate puzzles and platforming challenges in the kingdom of Concordia.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)

Luigi first appeared as a playable character on the Switch in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. As a middleweight racer, he offers a balanced stat distribution with a slight edge in speed and handling. His memorable appearance in an ad for the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 sparked the Luigi Death Stare meme.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017)

Luigi featured in the Nintendo-Ubisoft crossover, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This tactical RPG includes Luigi and Rabbid Luigi, the latter mimicking his human counterpart's style and behavior, as potential party members.

Mario Tennis Aces (2018)

Luigi took to the court as one of 16 launch characters in Mario Tennis Aces. Known for his balanced attributes in Mario sports games, Luigi's specialty shot, Pipe Cannon, sends him soaring for a powerful spike.

Super Mario Party (2018)

Luigi is among the 20 playable characters in Super Mario Party. A constant presence in the Mario Party series, Luigi appears alongside Mario in this first Switch entry, which ranks as Nintendo’s ninth best-selling game on the platform, according to the company.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018)

Luigi is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of 12 characters playable across all five Smash titles. In LumiRank’s 2025 tier list, Luigi is ranked as an A+-tier fighter, securing the 18th spot overall among 93 ranked Smash players.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (2019)

Luigi is a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, an expanded version of the Wii U game that includes the New Super Luigi U expansion. Here, Luigi stars with his higher jump and faces new challenges with a 100-second timer on each level.

Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)

Alongside Mario, Toad, and Toadette, Luigi is one of four playable characters in Super Mario Maker 2. This level-building platformer lets players craft their own Mario levels using assets from various Mario titles.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (2021)

In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, players can opt to play entirely as Luigi, who handles similarly to Mario but with a slightly higher jump and less traction, giving him a more 'floaty' and 'slippery' feel.

Mario Golf: Super Rush (2021)

Luigi joins Mario and friends on the golf course in Mario Golf: Super Rush. With good control and excellent speed stats, he's well-suited for the game's new Speed Golf mode. His special shot, Ice Flower Freeze, creates a frozen hazard on impact.

Mario Party Superstars (2021)

Luigi returns in Mario Party Superstars, the second Mario Party game on the Switch. Unlike its predecessor, Superstars compiles classic minigames, boards, and mechanics from previous entries in the series.

Mario Strikers: Battle League Football (2022)

Luigi is one of 16 playable characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, excelling in technique for dribbling, curving shots, and accurate shooting.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (2022)

Luigi and Rabbid Luigi return in the tactical sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, where Luigi is classified as a Sneak Attacker with ranged weapons and lower health.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder (2023)

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the latest 2D Mario platformer, Luigi offers a visually distinct but mechanically identical alternative to Mario.

Super Mario Party Jamboree (2024)

Luigi is playable in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the largest and arguably finest entry in Nintendo's party series. He also features in the new Buddy mechanic, potentially turning dice rolls into 10s.
