Navigating the expansive and often desolate Synthwave landscapes of the Overgrowth in Hyper Light Breaker can be a daunting task. However, utilizing your Hoverboard can transform your journey from a tedious trek to an exhilarating ride. Although the game doesn't explicitly guide you through this, you're equipped with the Hyper Light Breaker Hoverboard right from the outset.
The Hoverboard serves as a crucial sprint mechanic in Hyper Light Breaker, significantly boosting your movement speed to cover vast distances efficiently while your Energy depletes gradually. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of summoning your Hoverboard and highlight its various features that make it an indispensable tool for more than just traversing the Overgrowth swiftly.
How To Summon A Hoverboard In Hyper Light Breaker
To sprint and summon your Hoverboard, simply hold down the Dodge input. Your character will dash forward and seamlessly transition onto the Hoverboard as long as you maintain the Dodge input.
Controlling the Hoverboard is straightforward. By tilting the left analog stick in any direction, you can lean the Hoverboard and gradually turn, with the turning radius influenced by your current speed. At top speeds, turns are more gradual, whereas slower speeds allow for tighter control.
To dismount the Hoverboard, release the Dodge input. Additionally, the Hoverboard will automatically disappear if you exhaust your Energy while riding.
Your Energy level, crucial for maintaining the Hoverboard, is visible next to your Breaker's companion. If your Energy runs low, take a brief moment to dismount and allow it to replenish, preventing an unexpected dismount.
Hoverboard Movement Tips & Special Uses
While the Hoverboard doesn't support performing tricks or combat, Hyper Light Breaker incorporates several unique features and uses that enhance its utility. One standout feature is the Hoverboard's ability to float on water, allowing you to cross rivers and inlets that you might otherwise need to avoid in the Overgrowth. The controls remain consistent whether on land or water.
Remember, you cannot summon the Hoverboard once you're already in the water; you must be riding it as you enter to glide across the surface. Regardless of your entry speed or jump height, the Hoverboard will automatically adjust to stay afloat.
Another useful technique is holding down the default Jump input while on the Hoverboard to crouch and prepare for a jump. Although you can't double-jump while on the Hoverboard, the increased speed can help you leap over wider gaps. Crouching doesn't boost your speed or jump height but aids in timing your jumps more precisely for those challenging leaps.
