"Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release"

Author : Blake Update:Apr 09,2025

The gaming community is buzzing with excitement following Microsoft's recent mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong in an official Xbox post. Adding fuel to the fire, recent backend changes to the game's Steam listing have sparked widespread speculation about an imminent re-reveal and potential release. On March 24, as documented on SteamDB and shared across social media platforms like Reddit and Discord, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated. These updates included an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming platform, along with changes to assets and the legal lines on the Steam store page, now indicating a copyright by Team Cherry for 2025 instead of 2019.

All signs point to an upcoming event related to Hollow Knight: Silksong, possibly hinting at a 2025 release. With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans might not have to wait long to get official news. It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and while there have been sporadic updates, long periods of silence from Team Cherry have kept fans on edge. January saw a flurry of activity on social media from a developer, igniting speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct, and even a possible timed launch exclusive on Nintendo's next-gen console.

When Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed its launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. The game has also become one of the most anticipated titles for Game Pass, following Microsoft's deal to bring Silksong to its subscription service on day one. In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that everything shown would be playable within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, with marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin stating, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. IGN's review of Hollow Knight praised its world, saying, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
