FromSoftware has unveiled additional details about their newly announced exclusive for the Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also transformed the design of the hub area's keeper into something unique and, surprisingly, cute.
During the Switch 2 Direct event, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs. This character, as it turns out, serves as the new hub companion for The Duskbloods. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained in an interview with Nintendo, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."
Miyazaki further elaborated on the character's design, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." When pressed for more details, he added with a chuckle, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."
FromSoftware's hub keepers have traditionally been pivotal figures in the player's journey through their games, with iconic characters like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll offering guidance and empowerment. In the context of The Duskbloods, which features a PvPvE gameplay mode, it will be fascinating to see what kind of advice and guidance this winged rat companion will provide. Miyazaki hinted at the team's experimentation with "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should anticipate innovative elements when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
