Destiny 1 Gets Surprising Update Seven Years Later

Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Updated with Festive Lights

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's iconic Tower social space has received an unexpected holiday makeover. The surprise update, featuring festive lights and decorations reminiscent of past seasonal events, has captivated players. This accidental update remains unexplained by Bungie, leaving players to speculate on its origins and enjoy the unexpected treat before its likely removal.

Destiny, while still accessible, largely faded into the background with the 2017 launch of Destiny 2. While Bungie continues to integrate legacy content from the original Destiny into its sequel – including popular raids and exotic weapons – this unexpected update to the Tower is a unique surprise for dedicated players who still log into the original game.

The unannounced update, first noticed on January 5th, features Ghost-shaped lights similar to those seen in past events like The Dawning. However, the absence of snow and unique banner designs suggests it's not a standard event rerun. The lack of new quests or in-game announcements further adds to the mystery.

A Scrapped Event's Unexpected Return?

Fan theories quickly emerged, pointing towards a cancelled event from 2016, tentatively titled "Days of the Dawning." Reddit user Breshi's video analysis highlights the striking similarity between unused assets from this scrapped event and the current Tower decorations. This leads many to believe the decorations were accidentally scheduled for a future date, long after Destiny 1's active development ceased. Bungie likely assumed the game would be offline by then, making the update's appearance all the more surprising.

As of now, Bungie remains silent on the matter. The update's temporary nature is likely, considering the transition to Destiny 2 in 2017, which marked the end of live events for the original game. For now, players are encouraged to log in and enjoy this unforeseen festive surprise in the Tower before it disappears.
