CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the install size for *Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition* on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be 64GB. This is notably smaller than the versions available on Xbox and PS5, which range from 100-110GB. However, on the Switch 2, with its confirmed internal storage of 256GB, this game will still occupy a significant 25% of the available space.
Set to launch simultaneously with the Switch 2 on June 5, *Cyberpunk 2077* will be available both as a physical 64GB game card and as a digital download via the Nintendo eShop. Notably, unlike some new Switch 2 game cards that contain only a download key, *Cyberpunk 2077* will come with the full game on the card itself.
The announcement raises important questions about the Switch 2's storage capacity. With 256GB of internal storage—a substantial upgrade from the original Switch's 32GB—users are still likely to face space constraints given the increasing size of modern games. For example, *Cyberpunk 2077* at 64GB dwarfs the largest game on the original Switch, *Tears of the Kingdom*, which was only 16GB. Other anticipated titles, such as the $80 *Mario Kart World*, are expected to be even larger.
The solution to this issue lies in expandable storage. While the original Switch used standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 will require microSD Express cards. This shift means that existing microSD cards will not be compatible, and users will need to invest in new, typically more expensive, microSD Express cards.
IGN's deals team has already identified some of the best prices on Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, offering options such as 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), and 1TB ($199.99) from brands like SanDisk and Lexar. However, due to high demand, some of these cards are already listed as "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon.
Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to release its own branded microSD Express cards, which are likely to be more expensive than their third-party counterparts. As the Switch 2 drives demand, more manufacturers might enter the microSD Express market, though it remains uncertain if this will lead to lower prices.
