In *Avowed*, companions aren't just for conversation; they're vital for traversal and combat. This ranking assesses each companion's practical value, from least to most helpful.

4. Marius

Marius' early-game utility in finding items and plants is quickly overshadowed by other companions. His combat abilities, while offering crowd control with root effects and bleed accumulation, lack the power to remain consistently useful throughout *Avowed*. His abilities, including Blinding Roots (rooting, stunning, bleeding enemies), Heart Seeker (piercing shots), Shadow Step (vanishing strikes), and Wounding Shots (bleed accumulation), are situationally effective but ultimately insufficient for most encounters in the Living Lands.
3. Giatta

Giatta, a support-focused Animancer, excels at healing, shielding, and buffing the party. While her damage output is limited, her protective abilities are invaluable during challenging fights. Her kit includes Purification (healing), Barrier (shields), Acceleration (speed buffs), and Reconstruction (healing/revival). Giatta's ability to activate Essence Generators also unlocks late-game areas, making her a valuable asset for exploration, particularly for Envoys specializing in magic.
2. Kai

Kai, an early companion, remains effective throughout the game. This tank deals significant damage and requires minimal player intervention. His abilities, Fire and Ire (stunning, taunting, igniting), Unbending Defense (health regeneration, damage reduction), Leap of Daring (stunning, taunting), and Second Wind (self-revival), provide both single-target and area-of-effect control. His fire-based abilities also prove useful in environmental puzzle-solving.
1. Yatzli

Yatzli, a powerful Wizard, delivers high damage and excellent crowd control. Her abilities, Essence Explosion (explosive damage, fire accumulation), Minoletta’s Missile Battery (seeking missiles), Arduos Delay of Motion (slowing, frost accumulation), and Blast (area-of-effect damage, status effects), provide versatile offensive and utility options. She also contributes to environmental interaction, making her the top companion choice for most players.
*Avowed releases on PC and Xbox on February 18.*
