Another mobile game has met its end, and this time it's Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator that has announced its End of Service (EOS). Koei Tecmo and Akatsuki Games have just revealed that their RPG will be shutting down soon, but this only applies to the global version. Launched globally in January 2024, the game's performance has evidently been underwhelming, leading to this decision. We'll delve into the reasons behind the EOS later on.
In contrast, the Japanese version of the game is doing well and has no plans to shut down anytime soon. It launched in September 2023 and is preparing to celebrate its 1.5th anniversary in March 2025, which adds a layer of irony to the situation. Why is that? Let's explore further.
When Is the Atelier Resleriana EOS?
The irony deepens as the global version's EOS coincides with the Japanese version's 1.5th anniversary celebration. The exact date for the global shutdown is set for March 28th, 2025. At that time, while Japanese players will be progressing through Chapter 22 (Part 2), global players will be stuck concluding Chapter 21 (Part 1).
The in-game purchase system is already disabled, but if you have Lodestar Gems, you can continue using them until the game's final moments. Koei Tecmo has also committed to providing new content and events until the shutdown.
Adding to the irony, the global version just celebrated its first anniversary on January 25th. So, it's a bittersweet "happy anniversary, now pack your bags" scenario.
Why Is It Shutting Down?
The developers have issued a notice stating that after evaluating the situation, they were unable to maintain the game at a satisfactory standard for the players, leading to the decision to shut it down. This is indeed the case, as the game failed to leave a lasting impression on its player base.
Just a couple of months after its launch, players began voicing their frustrations with the game's gacha system. While the main characters were well-received, the gameplay and monetization strategies fell short, and the power creep was too severe.
These factors undoubtedly contributed to the decision to announce the EOS for Atelier Resleriana's global version. If you wish to bid farewell to the game, you can still find it on the Google Play Store.
