Nintendo Switch 2: Official Announcement Expected This Thursday
A reputable leaker claims the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 reveal strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.
The Switch 2's existence has been widely speculated. Reports indicate mass production began in late September or early October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025, aligning with the end of their fiscal year.
NateTheHate, a known and reliable leaker, broke the news on his January 13th podcast, citing unnamed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of Thursday announcements; the original Switch was teased on a Thursday in 2016. The Verge's Tom Warren independently corroborated this information.
Extensive Leaks Precede Official Reveal
While a pre-announcement social media teaser, similar to the 2017 Switch announcement, remains a possibility, the sheer volume of leaks makes a surprise reveal unlikely. The extent of these leaks is such that Nintendo even commented on a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgment of leaked products.
Rumors suggest a slightly larger console than the Switch OLED (270 x 116 x 14mm) with an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are anticipated, with the right Joy-Con potentially featuring a new "C" button below the home key, possibly related to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.
Launch Titles Remain Unconfirmed
Unlike the hardware details, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely unknown. While games like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is expected as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely include at least one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
