A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament, "Sleep Fighter," is demanding participants prioritize sleep! Organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid, Drewell, this Capcom-backed event features teams of three battling for victory. Points are awarded for wins, but crucially, teams also earn "Sleep Points" based on their collective sleep hours in the week leading up to the tournament.
Teams must accumulate at least 126 hours of sleep (six hours per player per night) or face point deductions for each hour short. The team with the most total sleep time also gains the advantage of choosing match conditions. This innovative tournament highlights the importance of sleep for peak performance, a key message of SS Pharmaceuticals' "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First" campaign. It's the first esports event to penalize insufficient sleep, marking a significant shift in competitive gaming culture.
The tournament, taking place August 31st at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo (limited attendance via lottery), will be live-streamed on YouTube and Twitch. Top players, including two-time EVO champion Itazan and renowned SF player Dogura, are set to participate, promising a thrilling blend of competitive gaming and sleep wellness advocacy. Further broadcast details will be announced on the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account.
