Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play event, finally confirmed the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer provided a captivating glimpse into the game's sword-focused combat and impressive boss encounters. Despite its 2026 release date, the game's visuals and action sequences are already generating significant buzz.
Miyamoto Musashi's portrayal extends beyond his renowned swordsmanship; the trailer highlights his mischievous and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most iconic historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a celebrated Japanese actor known for his samurai roles.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
