A Silph Road subreddit post highlights July's anticipated events, focusing on the Ultra Unlock event (July 25th-30th) titled "Strength of Steel." Many believe this event will finally introduce Mega Lucario or Mega Metagross, fulfilling a community wish.
The "Strength of Steel" event presents a prime opportunity for Niantic to debut these Mega evolutions. Supporting this theory, Mega Metagross's design resembles a fusion of Metagross and Metang, aligning with the previous "Better Together" Ultra Unlock event. Additionally, Lucario's friendship-based evolution in other Pokemon games adds another layer to the speculation.
