Marvel Rivals: Character Popularity and Mod Controversy
Official game data reveals interesting character popularity trends in Marvel Rivals. In "quick play," Jeff reigns supreme, outperforming Venom and Cloak & Dagger. However, competitive modes show a different picture. On PC, Luna Snow, Cloak & Dagger, and Mantis lead the pack, while on consoles, Cloak & Dagger, Penny Parker, and Mantis take the top spots.
A surprising twist: Mantis, despite her popularity, is also the most frequently defeated hero in competitive play, leading the losses on both PC and consoles, surpassing Hela, Loki, and Magic. Consoles also saw strong performance from 14 other characters boasting win rates over 50%.
Conversely, unpopular characters include Storm, Black Widow, and Wolverine in "quick play," with Nemore taking the bottom spot in competitive modes.
The game's popularity is also marked by a recent controversy. After receiving over 500 mods in a single month, Marvel Rivals faced backlash following Nexus Mods' removal of modifications replacing Captain America's head with images of Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Nexus Mods owner, TheDarkOne, explained in a private Reddit discussion that both Trump and Biden-related mods were removed simultaneously to avoid accusations of bias. This action, however, has seemingly gone unnoticed by YouTube gaming commentators.
