Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Returns to the Esports World Cup 2025
Following the apparent success of the Esports World Cup 2024, several game publishers have announced their return for the 2025 competition. Garena's Free Fire was an early confirmation, and now Moonton's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has also joined the lineup.
The 2024 tournament featured two MLBB events: the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and the MLBB Women's Invitational. These events brought together teams from around the globe to compete in Riyadh. Selangor Red Giants emerged victorious in the MSC, while Smart Omega Empress defeated Team Vitality (holders of a 25-game win streak since 2021) to claim the Women's Invitational title.
A Strong Showing, But Is It Enough?
Most games from the 2024 Esports World Cup appear to be returning in 2025. However, a notable observation is the relatively minor scale of the competitions featured. The inclusion of MLBB's mid-season cup, for instance, suggests the Esports World Cup might be perceived as a supplementary event rather than the primary focus.
This could be viewed positively, as it prevents the EWC from overshadowing established leagues. Conversely, it could also be seen as a less significant tournament compared to the main MLBB events.
Regardless of this perspective, fans of MLBB will be delighted by its return to this prestigious competition.
