An Elden Ring player's unique approach to waiting for Elden Ring: Nightreign involves a daily duel with Messmer the Impaler. This dedicated gamer, known as chickensandwich420, is tackling this notoriously difficult boss every day until the spin-off's release.
A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Marathons
Rather than passively awaiting Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a challenging self-imposed task: consistently defeating Messmer on NG+7, employing a different weapon each time and achieving a flawless no-hit victory. This ambitious undertaking began on December 16, 2024, as documented on his YouTube channel. Initially, he planned to tackle various FromSoftware bosses, but his university studies limited his time.
Messmer, the second antagonist in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is infamous for his brutal difficulty. Players report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to conquer him, even with optimal gear. chickensandwich420's challenge is therefore exceptionally demanding.
However, the challenge has a built-in deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't launch by then, chickensandwich420 will shift his focus to other games. This sets a limit of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off set within the Elden Ring universe, was announced at The Game Awards 2024, with a projected 2025 release. However, FromSoftware's development timelines are often unpredictable. Only time will determine if chickensandwich420's dedication will be rewarded with Nightreign's timely arrival, or if a delay will bring his impressive Messmer marathon to a premature end.
