Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, dreams of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film alongside Keanu Reeves. Find out more about this exciting prospect!
Night City's Next Chapter?
In an interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves reunite), Idris Elba expressed his enthusiasm for a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be "Whoa," effectively voicing a desire to make this a reality.
Reeves, of course, portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion. This isn't just wishful thinking; Variety reported in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red is collaborating with Anonymous Content on a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project. While details are scarce a year later, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk adaptation is highly plausible.
Expanding the Cyberpunk Universe
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched in several languages, offering a glimpse into the lives of Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A full volume is expected in 2025. Additionally, a Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is slated for 2025, and a new animated series is in development. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to enriching the Cyberpunk universe across multiple media.
