Assassin's Creed Shadows Delayed to March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing the release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially slated for a February 14th release, this marks a five-week postponement from the previously announced date.
The publisher cites the need to integrate player feedback as the reason for the delay. This contrasts with the initial three-month delay announced in September 2024, which stemmed from internal development challenges related to historical accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience through ongoing player-developer communication. Both delays, however, share the common goal of providing extra time to refine and polish the game.
Key Dates and Information:
- New Release Date: March 20, 2025
- Previous Release Date: February 14, 2025
- Original Release Date: November 15, 2024
The September delay resulted in pre-order refunds and the offer of free access to the game's first expansion for future pre-orders. Ubisoft has yet to announce similar compensation for this latest postponement. The shorter delay may mitigate potential player backlash compared to the previous three-month shift.
This additional delay might also be connected to Ubisoft's ongoing internal investigation into its development practices, launched in response to disappointing sales figures and record losses in fiscal year 2023. The investigation aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and incorporating fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows aligns with this goal.
