Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has cancelled the physical release of the game for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
Delays Lead to Cancellation
The physical release faced multiple delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was postponed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before ultimately being cancelled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were affected by these repeated postponements. While Meridiem Games offered little further explanation beyond the initial announcement on Twitter (X), the cumulative delays clearly contributed to the final decision.
This news is particularly disappointing for European fans, as the cancelled release would have been the first official opportunity to play Omori in Spanish and other European languages. Physical copies remain accessible only through importing from regions like the US.
About Omori
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy coping with the aftermath of a traumatic experience. The game seamlessly blends the real world with Sunny's dream world, where he assumes the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving merchandise from the game's creator.
