4A Games and Dmitry Glukhovsky Announce New Metro Game Development

In the wake of Reburn's formation—a new studio established by former members of 4A Games Ukraine, the masterminds behind the acclaimed Metro series—4A Games has reaffirmed its dedication to furthering the franchise. This announcement comes on the heels of Reburn's reveal of their debut project, La Quimera, which sparked curiosity about the future trajectory of the Metro series.

"We remain the team responsible for bringing you the beloved Metro games," the statement declared. "Our efforts toward the next Metro installment continue in partnership with Dmitry Glukhovsky, guided by the same visionaries and talent that have shaped the series since its inception."

In addition to the eagerly anticipated Metro sequel, 4A Games teased the development of a brand-new intellectual property, though details are still under wraps. They proudly highlighted their Ukrainian roots and the diversity of their team, mentioning that approximately 150 of their over 200 staff members are still based in Kyiv, with additional operations in Sliema, Malta, and remote setups.

Regarding the organizational split, 4A Games provided further context:

"Following the completion of Metro Exodus and its DLC, we collaborated closely with our partners at 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Post-Exodus, we founded 4A Games Limited in Kyiv, absorbing roughly 50 more colleagues to sustain our momentum. Simultaneously, 4A Games Ukraine embarked on their standalone journey with La Quimera, eventually rebranding as Reburn."

Since the launch of Metro Exodus in early 2019, fan interest in the series has only grown, despite limited updates. While spin-offs and enhancements like the Enhanced Edition have kept the community engaged, many fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment in Dmitry Glukhovsky's dystopian universe. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly known as THQ Nordic), 4A Games initially hinted at a new Metro title in 2019, setting a nebulous "202X" release window before going silent. Now, it appears that the wait for a new chapter may finally be nearing its end.
