Developer Pearl Abyss has reportedly turned down a deal with Sony to turn its highly anticipated, upcoming action-adventure game Crimson Desert into a PlayStation exclusive.
Sony Fails to Secure Exclusivity of Crimson Desert as Devs Want to Remain IndependentNo Release Date and Platforms Confirmed Yet for Crimson Desert
Additionally, the developer announced that it will be exhibiting Crimson Desert to the public in November. Pearl Abyss stated, "Furthermore, we have not yet announced a release date, so any articles on the subject are merely speculation at this time. We are eager to demonstrate a playable Crimson Desert build to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November."
According to an investor meeting in September, it was revealed that Sony attempted to negotiate an agreement with Pearl Abyss to make Crimson Desert exclusively available on the PS5, which would have prevented the game from being released on the Xbox platform for a period of time. However, Pearl Abyss stated that they opted to self-publish Crimson Desert as "it was determined that self-publishing would be highly lucrative."
A definitive list of platforms on which Crimson Desert will be released has not yet been confirmed, nor has an official release date. The game is anticipated to be released on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox sometime in Q2 2025.
