Bandai Namco's Blue Protocol, slated for a global launch via Amazon Games, has been officially canceled. This follows the announcement of the Japanese servers' closure in January 2025. This article details the announcement and its implications.
Blue Protocol: Global Release Cancellation and Japanese Server Shutdown
Final Updates and Player Compensation
Bandai Namco has confirmed the termination of Blue Protocol's Japanese service on January 18, 2025. Consequently, the planned international release, a collaboration with Amazon Games, is also canceled. The company cites an inability to consistently meet player expectations as the primary reason for this decision.
In a formal statement, Bandai Namco expressed regret over the cancellation, stating their inability to maintain a satisfactory service. They also acknowledged their disappointment in halting global development with Amazon Games.
Until the game's closure, Bandai Namco will continue providing updates and new content. However, Rose Orb purchases and refunds will cease. As compensation, players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (September 2024 – January 2025), plus 250 daily. Furthermore, the Season 9 pass is now free, and the final update (Chapter 7) is scheduled for December 18, 2024.
Launched in Japan in June 2023, Blue Protocol initially attracted over 200,000 concurrent players. However, the launch was marred by server issues requiring emergency maintenance. Subsequently, player numbers dwindled, and dissatisfaction grew.
Despite a promising start, Blue Protocol failed to retain its player base and ultimately fell short of Bandai Namco's financial projections. This underperformance, previously mentioned in their financial report (ending March 31, 2024), contributed significantly to the decision to end service.
